Choir is one of the oldest groups which have accompanied the Eucharistic celebrations in the Catholic Church all over the world. Saint Cecilia is the patroness of the musicians.Young and old men and women have joined the choir to praise the Lord in harmony over the years.
The Chapel has produced many talented musicians over the decades. Musically well qualified people have been part of the Mt. Carmel Choir. Over time the choirs have improved in terms of musical standards.
Currently we have three choirs in the Chapel. Two are Konkani choirs and one is English. The main choir of the chapel sings on Sundays for the 8:00 A.M mass and also on solemnities and feast days. The other Konkani choir sings for the 6:15 A.M mass on Sundays.
The English Choir sings only for the English mass on Saturdays at 6:30 P.M, which is a Sunday liturgy mass and on Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M.
On weekdays for daily masses in the morning, each “SOMUDAI” appointed for the week takes up the preparation of the liturgy and singing in the choir.
Any Faithfull of the Chapel interested to join the choir group will have to give an audition to the musician arranged from outside the parish in the presence of the senior members of the choir and the chaplain. However once the candidate gets selected he or she will have to be committed to the choir for all the practices.
